The fauna of the municipality of Yaiza is quite interesting within the context of the island and even the archipelago as a whole, especially due to the presence of various rare birds that are endangered species and whose last refuge on the island is found here. To date, a total of 39 species of land-based vertebrates (not counting non-nesting migratory birds) have been discovered in the municipality of Yaiza. Of these, two are reptiles, 31 are birds and six are mammals.

The low average altitude of this municipality and its essentially arid climate, with little rainfall, along with the historic eruptions of Timanfaya that have buried almost half of its surface with very recent volcanic material that is totally infertile, make it difficult for flora and vegetation to thrive. Despite these obstacles, large and diverse flower communities can be found in Yaiza.
